At Norseman Global, we believe that sales is an essential skill to learn for individuals as a quality. Many times as soon as the word ‘sales’ comes up people automatically paint a negative picture with it. To many, sales is a word that portrays persuasion, pressure and almost forcing individuals to buy something. However, at Norseman Global, we look at sales to be something different and rather fascinating. “Sales and companies go hand in hand. We acknowledge the importance and value of this quality because it is quite important to have as an individual,” says Erik Lickiss, managing director of Norseman Global.
We want to paint a more clear and appealing picture regarding sales. It is something we believe to be very essential in our personal and professional growth. Overriding an opportunity or position just because it contains the word sales in it should not be a concern to have. According to an article on Inc. Magazine about sales the writer Jeff Haden writes “To many people, the word selling implies manipulating, pressuring, cajoling–all the used-car-salesman stereotypes. But if you think of selling as explaining the logic and benefits of a decision, then everyone–business owner or not–needs sales skills: to convince others that an idea makes sense, to show bosses or investors how a project or business will generate a return, to help agents understand the benefits of a new process, etc. In essence, sales skills are communication skills. Communication skills are critical in any business or career–and you’ll learn more about communication by working in sales than you will anywhere else. Gaining sales skills will help you win financing, bring in investors, line up distribution deals, land customers; in the early stages of starting a company, everything involves sales.”
“Sales is so much more than selling. It is an art, and it helps us develop the skills we never knew we had. For example, according to the article by Haden sales helps us develop negotiation skills. This is very essential for communication. In our industry, learning negotiation means we’re opening the door for position communication and understanding. Sales also helps us develop that self-confidence because we are firm in what we want and know how to achieve it through means of building certain skill sets,” says Erik Lickiss of Norseman Global. Our sole understanding is that the impression of sales holds a stigma around it and people fear to be a part of that environment. Our job at Norseman Global is to make that easier and rather than driving anyone away from the word sales; we help individuals appreciate and love it. It has proven to build us and our reps in many ways, and it will continue to do so.
